ABSTRACT:
The major problem associated with the antibiotic is its bitter taste when administered orally. An oral reconstitutable suspension has been one of the most favorable dosage forms for pediatric and geriatric patients that offers more palatable and stable formulation of orally administer antibiotics. Cephalexin is a beta lactam antibiotic, a good alternative of penicillin, has poor stability problem with water because of shorter half life. In the present work we have prepared a reconstitutable suspension of cephalosporin with different types of suspending agent to study the effect of suspending agents individually or in combination. The oral reconstitutable suspension was prepared by simple mixing of powdered material by geometric dilution method that was intended to be diluted at the time of administration with sufficient amount of water as directed. The suspension were prepared by using xanthan gum, HPMC, combination of both and tragacanth as suspending agent and further evaluated for rheological behavior, sedimentation properties and drug content of the formulation. The aim of the present work is to prepare an oral reconstitutable suspension of cephalosporin to improve stability and patient compliance.

INTRODUCTION:
Since decades among all the pharmaceutical products available, oral drug delivery had gained a higher scope and popularity and had been widely employed for the systemic delivery of drug. The positive aspect regarding the oral dosage form which created its high level of acceptance was its case of administration, patient compliance and stability in the formulation [1]. Conventional oral suspensions can be administered immediately but an important category of oral solutions and suspensions that requires mixing prior to administration is more acceptable and stable. These are dry mixtures or dry syrups that require addition of water at the time of dispensing. The reconstituted system is the formulation of choice when the drug stability is a major concern [2-5].
Suspensions are uniform dispersion of solid drug particles in a vehicle in which the drug has minimum solubility. It is more favoured than solid because of the flexible dosage administration and easy to swallow [6]. It is a heterogeneous system consisting of internal phase or suspended phase, which is made up of the particulate matter, dispersed uniformly with mechanical agitation throughout the external phase with...
