Abstract

Following the lead of other European jurisdictions, France is set to introduce a carbon tax on July 1 2010 to help curb the country's emissions. Guillaume Glon, tax partner at Landwell-PricewaterhouseCoopers in France, said the new tax should be implemented sooner rather than later to help meet France's environmental targets. With such an ambitious target, Glon believes that the government must act soon to begin the process of getting the new tax within Finance Bill 2010. Glon's prediction came a week after ex-prime minister Michel Rocard presented a report to the government explaining that a carbon tax should be introduced in 2010 to help start combating climate change.
