Abstract

The subject of this article is the relation between the symbolical compositions of traditional film narration with Guy Debord and his book: 'Comments on Society of the Spectacle'. In his book, Guy Debord claims that all symbolical compositions are also reflected in mass media and so these media reproduce this fake reality. If it is considered that cinema is also a kind of mass media with one part, it is possible to say that especially traditional narration films perform this political function. In this article that includes the discussion of whether this is correct or not, first of all, the book: 'Comments on Society of the Spectacle' is analysed in terms of content and form. To do this, it is considered that there is a necessity to make use of the theoreticians like Karl Marks, Georg Lukács and Theodor W. Adorno that Debord was under the influence of. Second of all, the political functions of the symbolic compositions in traditional narration films are stressed in the context of the book which is talked about. For this, there has also made use of Debord's cinema perceptivity as well as the book 'Comments on Society of the Spectacle'. The article is a qualitative, descriptive and critical study.
