Zehra Cirak's third volume of poetry evokes the tension of living in two cultures and using the language of one to express herself. Born in Turkey in 1961, Cirak has resided in Germany since 1963. Fremde Flugel auf eigener Schulter is divided into five sections. The poems in each section are loosely grouped under their titles as themes, although the titles themselves evoke multiple meanings. An example is the fourth section, entitled "Zusammenhange," which in its primary meaning summons images of connections between concepts or things.
