First, I would like to commend you on your pursuit of excellence and obtaining a cert i f ication through the Certification Board of U rologic Nurses and Associates (CBUNA). I worked in the field of urology for 10 years as a technician and was unaware of an organization that certified technicians and associates. I am now an i n s t ructor of Urology Technicians and Surg i c a l Technologists for the United States Navy. Now, I am well aware of the certification process, and I re c o mmend to each and every student with whom I come in contact to get certified. I love teaching the new generation of technicians the proper way to do procedures and the use of the instruments and equipment. Yes, it can be a little overwhelming at first, but the more you use and operate them, the easier it becomes.
Being a urology technician in the U.S. Navy and stationed at four major hospitals, I have gained a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge of the equipment and consumable supplies used on a daily basis; this includes everything from assembling, proper disinfection, and the cleaning of cystoscopes to all of the diff e rent urethral and ure t e r a l catheters and stents.
