Abstract

By 2050, the population of the 48 poorest nations, mostly in subSaharan Africa, is expected to triple, from 658 million to 1.8 billion people. This increase will occur despite the fact that during this period HIV/AIDS will decrease Africa's total expected population growth by 15%. The report indicates that HIV/AIDS will cause 155 million more deaths than would otherwise be expected during the next 5 years in the 45 countries most affected by HIV/AIDS-a higher number than previously projected.
