Anderson first surveys research and laments the paucity of investigations on resurrection in Luke-Acts. Eight more chapters undertake filling the gap. In chap. 2, A. associates resurrection with salvation, construing Luke-Acts as about salvation. This is grounded in God's acts, Israel's covenants, forgiveness for Israel and the Gentiles, and eschatological hope. A. notes other foci; nevertheless, he overemphasizes soteriology for a narrative also about "all Jesus did and taught," "things fulfilled among us," a community developing its identity, and vindication of Paul.
In chap. 3, A. establishes resurrection in Second Temple Judaism as grounded in Scripture and the hopes of Israel. Emphasis falls on holistic anthropology, vindication for covenant loyalty and oppression in conjunction with God's creation and fidelity, and a relationship between resurrection and sin-exile-return. One obvious source for resurrection in Second Temple Judaism mat is overlooked is Paul.
In the next chapter, A. investigates Hellenistic views of resurrection. He discusses tombs, Hades, and celestial spheres as possible residences for the dead...
