Abstract
The study was undertaken to investigate Guidance Needs of adolescents and the impact of high or low Parental Encouragement on them. The sample of the study comprised 200 students (100 boys, 100 girls) which were selected from schools of Moga district. Random sampling technique was used for selecting the students. Eollowing tools were used for data collection: (1) Guidance Needs Inuentory (GNI) by Dr. J.S. Grewal and (2) Parental Encouragement Scale (PES) by Dr. R.R. Sharma. The findings revealed that there is no significant difference in Guidance needs of boys and girls. There is no significant difference in the Parental Encouragement of boys and girls. There is no significant interaction between Gender, Guidance Needs and Parental Encouragement.

Introduction
To a child, a parent is the most important influence in his life. By encouraging, a childg life shapes the morals, values and manners that are passed down to him. These morals and manners will help the child to succeed in school. Parents are a childg first and enduring teachers. They play a crucial role in helping their children learn. Parental encouragement and involvement has been operationally defined as the act of being involved in one[J children^ education. Children achieve more, when schools and parents work together. Parental encouragement helps in promoting the social, emotional and academic growth of children.
The parents, who care for their child, learn a lot about the world of early adolescents which is an important step towards helping the child because early adolescents have needs which make them different from other age groups. Adolescence refers to the period of development and adjustment during the transitional period between childhood and adulthood. The needs of early adolescents require special management.
Parental encouragement is one of the aspects of parent treatment patterns. It refers to the treatment originating from parents towards the child with a view to enhance the possibilities of future occurrences of good behaviour by care, concern, approval and guidance. Parental encouragement is of great significance in developing psychological as well as academic behaviour of a child.
The parents need to provide guidance regarding their needs so that they could be saved from the high risk of se If-destructive behaviours. This will avoid...
