Abstract
“Gus surmised that these disorders were due to a lack of platelets because of bone marrow depression following bone marrow radiation.” In due course, it defined the direction of a career that encompassed many laboratory studies of the nature and mechanism of platelet aggregation and of its practical measurement, and so raised the possibility of understanding how to manage it. At least part of Born's success as a researcher is surely attributable to the encouragement of his father, and to his youthful immersion in the world of science.
