When we pause to look back at books, we have to acknowledge the power of Harry . . . Potter, that is. So for this issue, we are doing something a little different. I asked students at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tennessee, to review all seven Harry Potter books. My thanks to teacher Spencer Reese who coordinated the project at the school. Thanks, too, to these talented students who learned that revision isn't easy. And thanks to J. K. Rowling for turning so many kids into avid readers. It's been quite a journey.
Harry Potter Boxed Set (Books 1-7)
by J. K. Rowling, Arthur A. Levine Books, 2007, $122.85, ISBN 978-0-545-04425-7.
I think that J. K. Rowling is a brilliant writer because of what she wrote and how she wrote it. I never really liked reading until this book came out. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the Quidditch match was my favorite. The way Rowling described the event made you feel like someone in the crowd cheering for Gryffmdor. The action in the book was suspenseful and made me want to keep turning the pages to find out what would happen next. At the end of the book, I couldn't wait for the next one. J. K. Rowling wrote a world that made me remember that I have an imagination and books can be fun.
