Abstract
For Henri Fayol, the proof of his administrative doctrine lay in his success as Director of Commentry-Fourchambault et Decazeville. He detailed his professional experience in depth in the third part of Administration Industrielle et Generale. Fayol's company archives have since been passed on to the Archives Nationales in Roubaix. They confirm the highs and lows of his management. They offer a complementary view. The book published for the company's centennial in 1954 gives the official version and clarifies several details. All these writings help keep alive the story of this relatively small mining and metallurgical company that survived through self transformation. The company followed the industry's technical and economical evolution in 19th century and early 20th century France.
