Hotel Revenue Management: Principles and Practices is a relatively concise book that provides an interesting and contemporary review of revenue management and its underlying key principles. In a textbook of 155 pages spanning 8 chapters, the author has been able to deliver a brief history of revenue management and subsequently develop key concepts and their application as they relate to the modern hospitality sector.
The book is divided into eight clearly distinct chapters. After an initial overview, Chapter 1 focuses on the concepts and definitions of revenue management. This is further developed by looking at the conditions for practicing revenue management, a historical perspective on yield management and the move to revenue management. Research streams on revenue management and the future of revenue management is also discussed. Chapter 2, Hotel Performance Metrics , focuses on measurement of hotel performances, with specific reference to internal and external measures, together with 'measurement challenges through benchmarking and competitive sets' typically found when managing a hotel, or 'other lodging operation'.
