HSBC has won double honors for its work-experience scheme for 14-18 year-olds and for its apprenticeship scheme - the first by any major UK bank.
The global bank's work-experience scheme won the innovation in sustainability and social-responsibility prize in the annual Financial World Innovation awards, organized by the school of finance at IFS, a specialist provider of professional financial education.
HSBC was also commended in the most effective cultural-transformation or staff-participation initiative category for its apprenticeships.
The work-experience program for 14-18 year-olds aims to help young people to experience what financial-services industry is all about before they decide to apply for a job.
Valuable insight into the world of work
The program takes the form of structured one-week work experience for each of the bank's major business areas - retail, commercial, operational or head office. It is designed to offer an early opportunity for young people to find out more about the type of work the bank does and the career opportunities available.
Participants not only gain valuable insight into what it is like to work in financial services, but also the chance to return for more work experience and to stay in contact with HSBC.
