Abstract: Within this study the water quality coming from the public springs in the Baia Mare area was analysed and monitored in terms of microbiology and physical and chemical composition. The purpose was to determine the quality of the drinking water given the real danger to human health that infested water consumption presents. The water samples that were studied were taken from six locations (Nistru, Sanatatii, Usturoi, Firiza, Chiuzbaia, Baia Sprie). For the samples a series of water quality parameters were determined such as nitrate ion content ( NO3 ) , nitrite ( NO2- ) , ammonia , iron, manganese , sodium, potassium , nickel , calcium, index of pH and conductivity as well as a number of microbiological parameters .The most important potability condition, from a bacteriological point of view, is the total lack of pathogens. Given the relatively laborious methods for highlighting their presence in water and their instability , we performed several indicators such as aerobic plate which grows to 37 ° C , total and faecal coliforms and faecal streptococci. All the analyzes were conducted under an accredited laboratory in the department for water quality control.

INTRODUCTION
According to the "The mineral and thermal waters from Romania map" the north area of Baia Mare belongs to the hydro geological Type D type of structure - Lava rock regions, in these structures, of pre Neogene and Neogene age, water circulates through cracks and faults [1]. From a hydro geological point of view, the Nordic neo-eruptive framework, the presence at the top of the lithology column of igneous rocks of andesitic type, waterproof, makes the formation of groundwater bodies virtually impossible. However, due to cracks formed in these rocks it is possible for small amounts of water coming from rainfall to infiltrate and to determine the emerge of springs encountered at various altitudes in the southern slopes or at the foot of the Ignis massif [1].
The purpose of this paper is that of evaluating these spring's potability considering how dangerous it is for human beings to consume infested water. This issue is of great importance given the fact that many of the residents from the area would rather...
