This study of Psalms 20-21 is the doctoral dissertation that Bazylinski defended at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in December of 1998. B's study has two objectives: (a) to describe the character of the king in the royal prayers; and (b) to determine whether Psalms 20 and 21 are parallel texts.
Bazylinski presents his study in seven chapters. Chaps. 1 and 2 provide, respectively, overviews of the history of interpretation of the Psalter and of various theories concerning its organization. Against this background, B. devotes chaps. 3-4 to a detailed exegesis of Psalms 20 and 21. He concludes this analytical section with a chapter that synthesizes the results of his exegesis in such a manner as to propose that Psalms 20 and 21 are parallel texts.
