Abstract

For the calculation of the propensity score, we selected the following covariates: age, sex, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologist-physical status (ASA-PS), revised cardiac risk index, chronic kidney disease stage, preoperative antiplatelet drug or anticoagulant use, type of surgery, urgent or emergency surgery, preoperative Hb value, and preoperative platelet count. Preoperative anemia in non-cardiac surgery patients was also associated with an increased risk of 30-day morbidity and mortality [5]. [...]correcting anemia before surgery might improve patients' prognoses. [...]the results of this retrospective analysis indicate that among patients undergoing open abdominal cancer surgery, ANH reduced the need for an intraoperative RBC transfusion.Author contributions H.K. designed the study, collected data and drafted the manuscript.
