It is unfortunate that readers without French do not have direct access to Jean-Pascal Daloz's latest, and very interesting, study. This book, although theoretically informed, is not limited by theory. Daloz places his work outside the scope of developmentalist, Marxist, and "tiers-mondaliste" perspectives which, he argues, are not sufficiently empirical to be of real use. he means to use this study of Nigeria to highlight points and patterns that are applicable to the rest of Africa and to present a new way to view the relationship between represention and that which is represented.
