The first half of 1998/9 was not a good one for Indian steelmakers, with few showing any increases on the 1997.
Still in profit, though on a downward slide, Jindal Iron saw a 63% decrease to Rs 7.44 crore, from Rs 20.18 crore. Net sales for the current first half, however, were up from Rs 421 crore to Rs 471 crore. Sales too were up at Rs 206 crore as opposed to Rs 199 in the corresponding period last year.
