Supe's article on India's National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was interesting. 1 In reality, however, some disadvantages arise from conducting the test in its present form.
States in India have different state syllabuses and eligibility criteria, with a diverse medium of languages in pre-university exams. NEET is currently conducted only in English and Hindi. 2 A sudden change from state conducted exams to NEET particularly disadvantages rural students and candidates whose primary language in pre-university education was not English. 2 3 4 5 State governments conduct their entrance exams in regional languages and English. 2
Students who have completed pre-university education through the state syllabus are disadvantaged when compared with those who come through the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)....
