Delaware Program Drills Down on Today's Issues
ABI and the Delaware State Bar Association partnered to present the Delaware Bankruptcy Views from the Bench, held Nov. 2! at the Hotel duPont in Wilmington. More than 300 attended the program, which featured panels on jurisdictional issues after Stern v. Marshall, claims trading developments including new Bankruptcy Rule 2019, confirmation/post-confirmation issues and ethical concerns in both representation and solicitation.
District of Delaware judges Kevin J. Carey, Kevin Gross, Brendan L i n e h a n Shannon, Christopher S. Sontchi and Peter Walsh participated on panels. Among the panelists were many prominent speakers with national practices, including Bruce S. Bennett (Dewey & LeBoeuf; Los Angeles), Donald S. Bernstein (Davis Polk; New York), Gregg Galardi (DLA Piper; Wilmington), Thomas Lauria (White & Case; Miami), Deryck A. Palmer (Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft; New York) and Jamie Sprayregen (Kirkland & Ellis; Chicago). Adam G. Landis (Landis, Rath & Cobb; Wilmington, Del.) served as program chair, assisted by J. Kate Stickles (Cole Scholz, et al.; Wilmington, Del.), Bruce Grohsgal (Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones; Wilmington, Del.), Robert S. Brady (Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor; Wilmington, Del.), Mark G. Collins (Richards, Layton & Finger; Wilmington, Del.) and Teresa Brown-Edwards (Potter Andeson & Corroon; Wilmington, Del.).
Sen. Christopher Coons (D-DeI.) delivered luncheon remarks about his first year in the Senate and his sponsoring of legislation to extend 30 temporary bankruptcy judgeships, now pending in the full Senate. Five of the six Delaware judgeships are temporary and have expired; if a vacancy occurs, the position cannot be filled. More Than 650 Professionals Attend Winter Leadership Conference
More than 650 bankruptcy professionals attended the 23rd Annual Winter Leadership Conference at La Quinta Resort and Spa in La Quinta, Calif, on Dec. 1-3. In addition to the popular Great Debates program, which this year included a past presidents debate between Reginald Jackson ( Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP; Columbus, Ohio) and Deborah Williamson (Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated; San Antonio) on whether there should be a set of national ethics standards for bankruptcy professionals, members attended 1 1 concurrent and plenary sessions and nine committee CLE programs...
