Background
Dr. Chow is currently working as a lecturer in Biodiversity at School of Life Sciences in Chinese University of Hong Kong. After getting her B.Sc. degree in Biology at Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000, she obtained her Ph.D. degree in Plant Sciences from Oxford University in 2006. Dr. Chow takes an interest in plant cell biology, membrane trafficking and nitrogen metabolism in plants. She focuses on educating the next generation and develops software for teaching purposes at the time.
Back to Hong Kong and Chinese University
Dr. Chow chose to return Hong Kong after graduating from Oxford University instead of staying abroad, a decision some may consider queer. Upon my inquiries on the issue, Dr. Chow explained that her decision to study in England was to gain experiences and explore her potential in the field of science. Such aims were achieved after graduating from Oxford. In addition, she wished to be close to her family. Under these considerations, she made the decision to return Hong Kong.
As a graduate from Chinese University of Hong Kong, the sense of belonging towards her mother school drove her to join CUHK after her return. Dr. Chow added that it would only seem fit if she taught in her mother school, Chinese University of Hong Kong.
