NAJP: What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
LB: I don't know that I can point to just one. I do think two professional highlights include being elected President of the American Counseling Association (1998-1999), and President of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES).
NAJP: When did you first decide to become a counselor/psychologist/ therapist?
LB: I initially decided to become a counselor when I was an undergraduate. I was in the library and began talking with a woman who was completing a Master's Degree in counseling. As I talked to her about the a counseling career, I thought that this sounded interesting. Then I enrolled in a senior election, Introduction to Counseling. The professor ... very interesting. Consequently, I talked with the professor (Dr. Emmett Burbien) about a career in counseling.
NAJP: What are you currently studying/researching ?
LB: I have just finished a book with two co-authors (Dr. Elaine Jarchow, Dr. Beth Robinson) entitled All About Sex: The School Counselor's Guide to Handling Tough Adolescent Problems. I am completing the 3rd edition of my book, Counselor Supervision: Principle, Process and Practice. Other areas of study/research include: the relationship between acne and depression in teenagers, music techniques used in counseling, and client affiliation/disaffiliation.
NAJP: What is the toughest ( or most interesting, or most puzzling ) sex problem you deal with in teenagers and how do you deal with it...
