Traditionally, "brain teasers" are thought of as puzzles to solve using a logical thought process in a sequential manner. Everyone who is faced with using the current data available in their organizations will relate to this notion of a brain teaser. In this introductory column and those that follow, each brain teaser is based on a real world situation encountered by workers in a manufacturing environment. There will typically be three parts to each brain teaser. These parts are (1) the situations description ofa process or problem, (2) available data or other supporting information, and (3) questions that various workers want answered as well as questions that need to be answered for continual improvement to take place.
