Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy

As the title indicates, drug-taking is a central theme of Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy, directed by Rob Heydon and based on the novel by Irvine Welsh. Although there is liberal use of the f-word, this film is much less confronting than Trainspotting, based on an earlier novel by the same author. Nor do the actors in Ecstasy speak with such thick Scottish accents that subtitles are required.
To quote central character Lloyd Buist (Adam Sinclair), the party drug ecstasy is "pure fucking magic". With his friends, Lloyd dances the weekends away, dropping "e", snorting cocaine, smoking dope and drinking beer. To the disgust of his...
