STILL TRYING TO DECIDE when you should shell out the extra bucks for organic foods? Though the debate continues - with scientific studies and anecdotal evidence on both sides of the fence-a new paper by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) has just added a "nay" vote.
Publishing its conclusions in its Nutrition Bulletin, the BNF said that the overall body of science does not support the view that organic food is more nutritious than conventionally grown food. The BNF is an industry- and government-funded nonprofit focused on nutrition education.
Author Claire Williamson, MSc, RNutr, a nutrition scientist with the BNF, noted, "There appears to be a perception among many consumers that organic foods are more nutritious and therefore healthier than conventionally produced products....
