SUMMARY
The ASQ Design and Construction Division has prepared an Interpretive Guide for use by owners, project managers, architects, engineers, general contractors and specialist contractors to use when seeking to understand processbased quality management systems and ISO 9001:2000 related to the design and construction industry.

INTRODUCTION
Owners, project managers, designers and constructors worked together to update this guide as guidance to enable managers to establish, use and improve a QMS for each of their firms. It is for the each owner or project manager to add value by making use of their corporate process-based systems to establish a project QMS to reduce avoidable costs, improve value and reduce the variation of workflow through their projects.
These systems comprise policy, objectives, organization, transparent balanced processes and essential records to drive continual improvement.
