Jacqueline Geoghegan has been director of nursing and operations at The Medway NHS Trust, Kent, since October
What arc your three most important roles?
First, being a corporate director. I enjoy working with my director colleagues and influencing the direction of the trust.
Second, being the professional lead for 1,000 nurses and midwives, not only in terms of improving care for patients but also making the working lives of nurses and midwives as good as possible. Third, my role in achieving the national targets while maintaining quality and improving patients' experience.
What other significant posts have you held?
Until I started in my new post of director of nursing and operations, I had been director of nursing in the same trust since june 2000. Before this, I worked part time as the nurse adviser at Kingston and Richmond Health Authority and as a freelance management consultant.
This was a great opportunity to develop different skills and work to my own timescales on projects of my own choosing. I was also director of nursing at Southmead NHS Trust, now part of North Bristol NHS Trust, between 1997 and 1999, and held deputy director of nursing posts at the North Staffordshire NHS Trust and the...
