We have probably all had the experience of knowing a biblical story well and then following a close reading of the text only to discover many new insights into its richness. This has been my experience of reading André Wénin's study of the Joseph cycle in Genesis 37-50. W. is professor of OT exegesis in the faculty of theology at the Catholic University of Louvain. In circles where narrative criticism is a point of interest, W. is well respected for his interpretation of the Genesis stories of the flood, the tower of Babel, and the test of Abraham. The reader of this new work of W. will find his analysis of the Joseph cycle to be insightful, interesting, creative, and enriching.
