In the immediate wake of Jorge Luis Borges there came another Argentinian who would become one of the foremost writers in Latin America. But, contrary to his friend and teacher, Borges, Julio Cortazar became an advocate of socialism and a dedicated crusader for human rights. Born in 1914, he died in 1984, a French citizen in Paris. Although he essayed successfully all genres, he will be remembered above all for his four novels and eight volumes of short fiction.
