RDM delivers fourth catamaran ferry from Tasmania to Tanzania
Tasmaniani ship builder Richardson Devine Marine (RDM) has recently completed the 'Kilimanjaro IV', the fourth ferry for Tanzanian ferry operator Azam Marine and Coastal Fast Ferries.
The vessel measures 45 metres in length overall, with a beam of 11.5 metres and a draught of 1.4 metres. Powered by four l,342kW diesel engines, each driving a Kamewa water jet, the vessel has a maximum speed of 36.5 knots and a cruising speed of 34 knots at half-load.
With seating for 650 passengers over three decks, RDM describes the 'Kilimanjaro IV as a "serious people mover". Destined to operate on the 44 nautical mile Dar es Salaam - Zanzibar route, the 'Kilimanjaro IV will be a vital link between the bustling mainland capital and the historic, resort-like spice island.
