Abstract

The ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in Latin America from 1989 onwards implied changes in the internal legal systems which had to be adapted to this international treaty. The major achievement was the approval of the Codes of Childhood between 1990 and 2009 which are a model of a legal standard because it combines the majority of the rights that are acknowledged for childhood. The aim of this paper is to analyse the struc ture and content of these codes by using methodologically the key points of the CRC as an appropriate model of analysis. We concentrate on the educational aspects, which are present in many articles of the CRC as well as in the codes. The most important conclusion of this article is that the countries of the region have shown a concern to highlight the educational aspects in their legal regulations. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
