Abstract

The Latin school of Transylvania had an important impact on the Romanian cultural life between the second half of the eighteenth century and the first decades of the nineteenth. The historical studies of its representatives claim the purity of the Latin origins of the Romanians; the philological and linguistic researches of Samuil Micu, Gheorghe Şincai, Petru Maior and Ion Budai-Deleanu aim to elevate the prestige of the Romanian language. The Romanian intellectuals of Transylvania demand the same rights as the other nationalities of the Habsburg Empire and are committed to the political unification and independence of the Romanian people divided between different state formations.
