There is no question, however, that the broadened scope and methods of epidemiology will enable this science to play an increasingly important role in future efforts to elucidate the causes and prevention of human disease.

A citizen's coalition for a national health program can become a powerful political force, including organized and unorganized workers, farmers, professionals, and other middle class citizens; women, blacks, Hispanics, youths, senior citizens, and other minorities-in short, the majority of the people of our nation. Such a coalition can and will assure that the principle that health is a human right, not a privilege to be purchased in the marketplace, will yet be realized in the United States.
