QUARTER CENTURY CELEBRATIONS
Fremantle-based naval architect, Mark Ellis Marine Design (MEMD), is this year celebrating its 25th year anniversary.
Reflecting on the significant changes in clientele that have been experienced over the quarter-century, MEMD proprietor Mark Ellis says work initially came from specific shipyards.
"The fishing industry was quite a large part of the industry in Western Australia and many smaller passenger ferries were being constructed for the Asian market," he says.
"Over the last decade, work comes more from the specialised workboat and paramilitary market and even custom leisure market. We are now working directly with owners on more occasions, preparing the design and tender package for pricing by any yard, worldwide."
Mr Ellis believes the company's main strengths lie in both the quality of the team that has been assembled and the experience gained during the past 25 years.
"The core technical staff who work with me are Jim Wilshire, naval architect (nearly 20 years with MEMD), and Greg Kowalski, 3D modelling and design (about 13 years with MEMD). Administration is covered by Lyndal Spence (about 15 years...
