Abstract

Film characters with cancer are often one dimensional, serving simply as a source of tragedy for the protagonist, something to ratchet up emotion or provide a catalyst for revelation, or else a struggle to heroically overcome. The film was a deserving winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, receiving a standing ovation, and it's easy to see why.
