Two elderly men developed discontinuation syndrome after ceasing treatment with memantine.
Patient 1, a 77-year-old man, was admitted and a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease with cerebrovascular infarction was made. He was started on memantine 20mg [frequency of administration not stated] plus trazodone, risperidone and clonazepam. Six months after his admission, he stopped taking memantine due to an insurance issue. He developed aggression and insomnia, 2 days after stopping the drug.
