Abstract

This paper analyses, from the perspective of comparative literature and in the light of some reflections of feminism, the relationship between woman and family in two short stories by Doris Lessing and Almudena Grandes, To Room Nineteen and La buena hija, respectevely. The woman protagonists of both texts suffer the pression of a suppresive familiar space and they want to reinvent themselves as others, belonging to different subjectivity and genealogy. In this sense I study the space of the refuge, of the «room nineteen», a key element in Lessing's short story, and the double figure of mothering in Grandes's text.
