A chance meeting at a University College London dinner in 1992 saw the genesis of this ground-breaking book. At that meeting two of the authors discussed their mutual interest, the National Farm Survey records. Shortly afterwards they mulled over their project with the third when applying for research funding. Happily their interests coincided and overlapped, and The National Farm Survey 1941-1943 came into being.
