Andrea Morgan describes how her neurological assessment skills have improved after reading a continuing professional development article
I currently work on a neurology ward where I carry out neurological observations on admission and in an emergency when a patient's neurological status deteriorates.
Reading the article on the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) provided valuable information about assessment and monitoring of patients in my care. The GCS forms only one part of the neurological examination. It identifies the patient's best eye movement, and best verbal and motor responses. Other important observations include blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, pupil reaction and limb movement.
