This lengthy study emanates from a research initiative of the European University Institute. The contributors draw upon the findings of a questionnaire applied across 27 countries in west and east Europe. The book is presented as the first offering (documentation) in an ongoing project which promises to go on to cover two further stages (explaining xenophobia and determining policy options) in future studies.
According to Baumgartl's preface, the book `aims to analyse the phenomenon of new xenophobia across Europe'. The emphasis upon so many national case-studies ('a choice of quantity and comprehensiveness over in-depth analysis of fewer cases') is intended to enable the contributors to illustrate the complexities...
