The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended prostate artery embolisation as a treatment option for lower urinary tract symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Updated guidance, 1 published on 25 April, follows new data from a unique collaborative study run by UK interventional radiologists and urological surgeons working with the regulator. 2
"Results from the study show prostate artery embolisation can help large numbers of men with the symptoms of an enlarged prostate," said lead author Nigel Hacking, consultant interventional radiologist at University Hospital Southampton.
