Abstract

Brazil's growing involvement in the Second World War as part of the American war effort (from the late thirties to the Brazilian declaration of war against the Axis in August, 1942), and the gains of Brazilian foreign policy during the period (the financing of a national steel plant and the supplying of arms to the Brazilian armed forces) are studied and analysed mainly from a systemic perspective, from an outside view. Categorizing the Brazilian State with its geographic and economic attributes, we can explain the country's insertion in the worldwide all-out conflict that was brewing without the need of a concurrent examination of the Brazilian domestic policy making process or acceptance of any specific trait of its policy.
