Professor Ibrahim Muhammad Abu-Rabi. passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on 2 July 2011 at the age of 55 while attending a conference in Amman, Jordan. He was the holder of the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities Chair in Islamic Studies since 2008 at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada). Previously, he served from 1991 at the Hartford Seminary, Connecticut, United States, as Professor of Islamic Studies and Christian.Muslim Relations and co-Director of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian.Muslim Relations, as well as Senior Editor of its well-known journal The Muslim World. A Palestinian born in 1956 in Nazareth on the West Bank, he took his BA from Birzeit University (1980). Abu-Rabi. emerged since the mid-1990s as a prominent intellectual historian of twentieth-century Arab religio-political thought, acquiring a global reputation as a keenly astute observer of contemporary Middle Eastern Muslim affairs and political Islam.
