Abstract
When neurologist John Newsom-Davis was doing his National Service as a Royal Air Force pilot, he once lost his way and landed at the wrong airstrip. The tale may be apocryphal; if not, it stands in marked contrast to the certainty of direction that guided his subsequent medical career.
