A condition for active presence of modern enterprises on the market is undoubtedly their development, which however is often limited by various barriers and threats. It becomes thus necessary to search for viable ways of supporting and using their development potential by formulating methods and solutions that stimulate and support the development of such enterprises. One of such proposals is the concept of outsourcing, which is more and more widely used in managing an enterprise. Trying to reduce costs is one of modern ways of improving the efficiency of the functioning of an enterprise. Reduction of costs is also forced by changing market conditions, including the development of the sector of services and enterprises. This results in changes in enterprises, in their structure of resources as well as management methods and concepts. Enterprises see the opportunities of a wider use of outsourcing and using it to improve efficiency in the operational aspect, which results from the pressure of the cost factor, and in the strategic aspect, which is oriented towards building competitive advantage. The new approach to using outsourcing is more and more often accepted both by theoreticians and practitioners. The paper highlights the concept of outsourcing in the light of the assumptions of ecology. It has been assumed that outsourcing is taking certain functions, previously performed in an enterprise, from its structure and transferring them to an external supplier. Outsourcing means long-term partnership cooperation with external entities and cooperators under a contract. Therefore, one of the areas of using outsourcing solutions is environment protection. The law on environment protection in Poland is undergoing continuous changes, which places a range of obligations on enterprises as well as the obligation to follow changes in this law. Special use of environmental outsourcing can be seen in small businesses which lack a unit dedicated to environment protection. Meeting environmental obligations requires specialist knowledge and skills which are often not present in many enterprises. Moreover, companies very often do not invest in training employees in this area. An important problem is the fact that entrepreneurs do not have time to follow changes in the law on environment protection.
