The following report describes unintentional chronic paracetamol poisoning during pregnancy in a 22-year-old woman. The woman took repeated supratherapeutic amounts of paracetamol [acetaminophen] and paracetamol/codeine phosphate [Tylenol #3] for dental pain during pregnancy, resulting in maternal fulminant liver failure and intrauterine fetal demise.
The woman, who was para 1 and gravida 2 at estimated 19 weeks and 5 days gestation, presented to an emergency department with abdominal pain. She had had dental pain for several weeks and had been taking...
