Aleksandr Nekrich has long been for students of Soviet history and politics a name to conjure with. Nowhere are his formidable qualities better illustrated than in this posthumous volume, a starkly uncompromising investigation of German-Soviet relations from 1922 to 1941, its impact and insights reinforced by exploiting recently declassified Soviet military and political archives. In addition, Nekrich also rigorously scrutinises the German documentation.
