From there he directs projects on the prevention and effects of stroke and TIAs and on the outcomes of treatment; these projects include the Oxford Vascular Study, the Oxford Vascular Cognitive Impairment Cohorts, the Non-Vascular Outcomes on Aspirin Collaboration, and the Oxford Plaque Study. Rothwell still worries about how the results of trials and other research apply to routine clinical practice, and champions the importance of practice-based clinical observation in a world where research funding has become heavily laboratory-biased.
