This is a revised edition of a book published in 1994. Deborah Brennan's book is an overview of the development of children's services in Australia focusing on the role of the Commonwealth since 1972, and has clearly been a valuable text especially for those studying and working in social work and social policy. Cambridge University Press should be commended for commissioning a revised edition thus giving the author an opportunity to assess the fundamental and rapid policy shifts in this area over the last four years.
