A 30-year-old man had an elevation in liver enzymes following overdose of propolis for sore throat [dosage and time to reaction onset not stated].
The man was referred to the gastroenterology unit due to persistent abnormal liver enzymes over the period of 6 months. Three months prior to the presentation, he developed recurrent fever, fatigue and sore throat. Blood tests revealed elevated liver enzymes along with the signs of acute Epstein Barr virus (EBV) infection (IgM positive). EBV associated acute hepatitis was suspected.
